About a decade ago in Detroit, I was trying to expand possibilities for socializing, and I decided to try a group of French speakers who organized meetups on meetup.com — French being one of my interests and hobbies.

Given how Americans tend to view French as a bit froufrou and not overly masculine, I bet myself that some of the men who were regulars would be gay or otherwise queer.

I won that bet with myself and made some really close friends — besides improving my French, lol.
