Yup. Heck, when I was growing up and in school, the length of girls' skirts was heavily regulated. Teachers often carried around rulers to see how far above the knees girls' skirts went. Shorts like us boys wore were forbidden to the girls. And you can bet no teacher ever measured the distance from our shorts hem to our knees.
Eventually, that sort of sexism dissipated, and girls roll out to dress more as they please, equivalent to boys, for functionality and their own individual freedom.
But in the United States, a conservative resurgence has now led a resurrection (in many states and school districts) of this sexist dress-code paradigm.
It's funny how the same conservatives complain about sexualization of children, while they're outright sexualizing girls by forcing them to wear skirts and then obsessing over how much leg they show. 🙄
