You're absolutely right about that, and I did link to the text of the bill, though perhaps less than obviously. While the text certainly seems plain as day to a layperson like me, and while I did consult a couple lawyer friends who reinforced what I already thought, the trouble is a certain conspiracy-theory mindset.

Some people don't want to believe the law's plain text, or they don't even bother reading it. They listen to somebody like Wagner, who has an ax to grind, and they're going to believe him because they want to, because his outlandish claims align with their queerphobic worldview.

That kind of process is discouraging, really. It very much is like the disinformation coming from the Trump camp, as you say.
