Your story reminds me that I was blown away yesterday, practically moved to tears, by the statement the governor of Utah made when he vetoed the bill that would have outlawed trans school students participating in sports.

The governor said, “Rarely has so much fear and anger been directed at so few. I don’t understand what they are going through or why they feel the way they do. But I want them to live.”

The statement is astonishing not in its content but in the fact that it was made by a Republican politician.

I wish more responsible leaders could act from this base of moral common sense and compassion.
