Your article reminds me very much of long conversations I used to have with the town tax assessor where my plastic recycling factory was located.

What? Tax assessor?

The town was majority Muslim, with a Muslim-majority city council. The tax assessor was a Sikh, originally from India.

Both of us were interested in how the town (Hamtramck, MI) managed to be so open and accepting of different kinds of people.

To make a long story short, sometimes he would drop by my office just to chat, and he told me a lot about his Sikh beliefs, which sound very similar to your own.
