You should probably know, Sherry, that using the word preference is actually considered offensive by many LGBTQ people. The word is commonly used by our enemies when they seek to pass or uphold laws that buttress systemic homophobic bigotry in the United States. We LGBTQ people (as a rule) don’t use the word preference to describe sexual orientation, and we ask that ouir allies not use it either. We prefer orientation, as it accurately reflects an innate condition not subject to choice.
