You know, when I first read the news reports on this I thought I was misunderstanding something. I figured I had to be misreading, because surely this couldn’t actually be happening.

I remember thinking once upon a time that Donald Trump didn’t have the power, despite his personal magnetism, to elevate overt racism and white nationalism to respectability. I believed Trump was a temporary setback and things would soon get back to normal, meaning not good but slow progress being made toward racial equality.

Ha!

Not long ago, what we’re seeing in Texas right now would have been unimaginable. Nobody would have dared introduce a bill like this.

Oh, the depths to which we have sunk. And we had better pay attention, because this isn’t going away on its own. This is real, and it’s the new normal.
