You know under what other circumstances this is common in the United States? People who own "mobile" or prefabricated homes often do not own the land on which the homes sit, even when the homes are mobile only in an abstract sense and cannot actually be moved. So the homeowner often pays a "lot rent," which can be pretty steep.
