You know, these young people today aren’t as sophisticated as they try to make us think they are. I have it on good information that many of them still drop more acid than they need while staring at old-fashioned lava lamps and listening to Pink Floyd. Some things never change.

While I haven’t done any psychedelics in longer than I care to remember, I do remember not much seeing the point in dropping a moderate amount of acid or eating only a couple mushrooms. But then, I always preferred to trip at home with friends and good music and lots of good trip toys.

My lover had a mystical experience once, but all I saw was Bart Simpson raising a middle finger from a poster on the wall. That’s how young I was, Bart Simpson posters on our bedroom wall were okay then.

The moment you wrote Playland, I got scared. I thought you were foreshadowing something awful. What a hole that place was. The surrounding peep shows were not much better but at least they weren’t filled with chicken hawks. Not that I ever tried them when tripping. That would have been …

Did I just admit I tried them sober? Hmmmm.

Anyway, I’d love to have known then some of the things I know now, but I wonder if I would have had as much fun.

Doubt it.
