You know, the very conservative Christians who push conversion therapy are hardly influenced by evidence and data. I mean, this is the same set who believe that evolution by natural selection does not happen, that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, and that Noah's flood literally happened.

Obviously, they don't have evidence on their side, but they don't need evidence. All they need is the occasional outlier scientist (often speaking outside their speciality) to make outrageous claims. They point to that scientist and plug their ears to the 99.999% of other scientists who believe what the evidence is telling them.

So this guy serves his purpose. He's that guy who's going to repeat a falsehood often enough that some people are going to believe him.
