You know, the first thing I saw when I woke up this morning was a news report about the Texas Supreme Court overturning a court order allowing a woman to have an abortion despite Texas's strict ban.
She has two children already, and she wants to be a mother again, in her word, "desperately."
But the fetus she's carrying cannot survive. Her own health is at risk. She's been in and out of the emergency room for pain and discharge. She's dealing with complications from diabetes brought about by the difficult pregnancy.
Her doctors warn that that should she carry this pregnancy to term, she may lose her fertility. (Would that be like forced sterilization?)
But Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is adamant that she must not be allowed to terminate her pregnancy. He's even threatened her husband with prosecution if he helps her get an abortion.
Women's issue of the day? That's for women to decide, but I'm thinking this looks like a pretty damn good candidate.
(The Texas Supreme Court's decision late yesterday was temporary. We might know more by the end of the day.)
