You know, oddly, the idea that Jesus had long flowing hair was probably a mistake caused by Christians at some point mixing up Nazirite (a member of an ancient Jewish sect or order in which men did not drink alcohol or cut their hair) and Nazarene, a resident of Nazareth where Jesus’s family lived.

We honestly have little idea how ordinary men in Palestine cut their hair in Jesus’s time. The elite, who were quite hellenized and also coming under the influence of Rome, probably cut their hair fairly short, as elite Greek and Roman men did.

But Jesus was certainly not elite. So, who’s to say?

But yes, certainly an odd cross to take up! And a great example for why dictating behavior based on ancient texts is fraught with problems.
