You know, it’s perfectly possible to have a professional ruling infrastructure with a high level of technical skills directed by a popularly elected leader who has to keep the people’s best interests in mind.
That is theoretically what we are supposed to have in the United States with our federal bureaucracy. It is highly educated and competent, needing only political leadership to direct it to work in the interest of the majority.
But that isn’t how it really works, is it? As you point out so well, our political leadership is often not truly democratically selected. Donald Trump clearly does not have the interest of the people in mind, for example. He nakedly advocates for the interests of the elite.
And the only way he gets away with it it’s quite literally voter suppression. Both systemic and targeted.
Yes, the elite do not want us to vote.
