You know it’s funny, I read an article this morning by a Catholic seminarian who’s trying to start a sort of Catholic Me Too movement. In the course of describing his own experiences, he resorted to shockingly homophobic language, painting pictures of disgust with respect to same-sex activity among consenting adults.
He went out of his way to make such activity sound disgusting and morally harmful. He was either unable or unwilling to draw any distinction between sexual abuse and wanted — probably uplifting — sexual intimacy.
If his homophobia and unhealthy attitudes about sex in general are at all representative of Catholic priestly thinking, it’s no wonder the Church has big problems.
