You know, I watched the body cam footage the other night, and the thing that struck me the most is that the cops didn't make the slightest effort to engage this man in civil discourse.

Worse, they went from zero to 100 on the scale of violence in under 3 seconds.

Somebody shouted a command, he didn't hear it and just kept walking. Not acting in any way threatening, not speeding up, obviously not fleeing.

And in under 3 seconds, a cop physically attacked him with an extreme level of violence.

After that cop took him down, more joined in, as they all but beat the shit out of him. While he had no idea what was happening or why he had been attacked.

And they charged HIM with assaulting THEM!

It's madness.

Meanwhile, his fiancee shows up and tries to tell the cops that he's deaf and has another physical disability too.

She explains that he can only communicate with sign language, which she knows. Separately, to a woman officer, she offers to use sign language to translate, so that he can understand what's happening. She communicated very respectfully the entire time.

The woman cop responds by telling another officer, "Don't listen to that ho."

Don't listen to that ho — who's offering to help de-escalate?

Don't listen to that ho?

Protect and serve?

Attack and brutalize is more like it.
