You know, I watched a video on YouTube the other night. It was police body-cam footage, actually. A Black man with sole legal custody of his daughter had called the police to report that his ex had kidnapped his daughter. This was extremely concerning to him, because his ex was mentally unstable, using methamphetamine, and living on the street.
So, you know. Sometimes ya gotta call the cops, even when you're Black.
Didn't end well. The guy was pretty upset, waving his arms around when he was telling the cops what happened. His voice was raised in anxiety, though not at them. He was just emotional, as you might imagine given that his 4-year-old had just been snatched by a mentally unstable woman on meth.
But he's a big guy, so the four heavily armed cops who showed up to help him were scared of him. One of them told him to calm down, then another one told him to get on the ground.
He was flabbergasted. And he couldn't get on the ground because he'd just had surgery.
He put his hands behind his back, however, explaining that he wasn't a danger to anyone, not resisting when one of them started to handcuff him.
But they yelled "stop resisting” anyway, as cops do. Then they beat the holy living fuck out of him. Because he wouldn't get on the ground.
He suffered permanent injury. They charged him with obstruction and felony assault. (The prosecutor's office dismissed the charges a few days later.)
Eventually, they got tired of beating him up and went and found his daughter.
Their police chief says they all acted within policy and appropriately.
So, yeah. If Trump were Black?
He wouldn't even have to commit a crime for the police to go nuts on him.
