You know, I think family abuse and even violence are tragic behaviors common to humans and something many people struggle against. I don’t know that Mormons are any more or less likely to do those sorts of things than humans in general, but it certainly doesn’t help that LGBTQ family members get the short end of the stick. In order to be loving and faithful to queer family, Mormons have to sacrifice a certain amount of faithfulness to the LDS Church, which is a tragedy in its own right.
Oh, and by the way (just if you’re interested!), one of my best friends in the Air Force was a Mormon who wore that special underwear garment that used to be common, but Mormon friends of mine today tell me that custom has rather gone by the wayside. And while Mormons long eschewed caffeine for religious reasons, the LDS Church holds today that drinking sodas and other caffeinated cold beverages is a matter of personal conscience. Some Mormons do and some don’t.
