You know, I first saw that video several days ago on Twitter. I couldn't stop laughing, because I presumed it was subversive parody. Much of it feels so over the top that it might have been intended as a sly put down.

I last watched it about an hour ago when I approved it as a Facebook post in an LGBTQ group that I help administer. The woman who posted it at also presumed it was anti-Trump parody.

I won't analyze all the lines, but there are a couple real howlers in there that seem to tip me off that it wasn't meant to be taken seriously.

But it is being taken seriously!

Some of the reaction in the initial Twitter thread I saw were from Trump fans who think the video is just beautiful.

That's where we are right now in the U.S. Many of us (and probably significant majorities of us) watch this video and laugh at how ridiculous Trump is.

But his hardcore supporters aren't laughing. They see over-the-top parody, and then they convulse in support with something that feels like religious fervor.
