You know, as a gay man and an LGBTQ advocate for decades, it’s very difficult for me and most of the people I know to care about interfaith cooperation. It’s so trivial in the face of the fact that most religious leaders in the world treat us with disdain and work to hurt us.
Catholic priests and nuns have to believe and affirm horrific, evil things about us just to become Catholic priests and nuns. Catholic priests and nuns are homophobic pigs.
The US Conference of Catholic Bishops, it has recently been revealed, worked to block suicide hotline legislation in the United States merely because that hotline would reach out to LGBTQ people. No catholic bishop anywhere in the world has spoken out to condemn the morally depraved behavior of the US bishops. Because Catholic bishops are homophobic pigs.
Must we even bring up Islam? Muslim imams count among the sickest, most revolting homophobic pigs of all. They’re so evil they’re Satanic when it comes to the sick, twisted, vile religious beliefs they affirm and teach about me and the people I love.
Evangelical Christians? Pigs. Absolute, uncompromising, homophobic pieces of shit.
I have a lot of love for the tiny percentage of affirming Christians who have rejected the religious condemnation of LGBTQ people. Ditto for Conservative and Reform Jews.
But for the most part, in my life and in the lives of almost all LGBTQ people, religious folks are horrifying — foul, evil, persecuting pigs.
So, you know, forgive us if we don’t care if y’all don’t get along. Plenty of us are delighted to watch our persecutors fighting and in some cases literally killing each other over your inane theological squabbles.
You hate us, and hurt us, and make our lives miserable. Obviously we despise you. We want you to suffer, because you make us suffer.
So forgive us as we laugh at your “interfaith” inanities. Forgive us for hoping you don’t succeed in getting along, which will only free up energies so y’all can hurt us even more.
Most religious leaders in the world are homophobic pigs. Trust me, LGBTQ people hate you for that, hold you in enormous disdain and the deepest possible disrespect.
