You have repeatedly ignored the point that this piece repeats the dangerous and untrue catfish trope and that trans people are (in pretty serious numbers) experiencing it as inherently offensive and insulting.

Whether or not the author intended that, whether or not you as a straight/cis person don’t read it that way, it is nonethless how LGBTQ people are reading it.

And that’s not because we lack reading comprehension.

What are to you finely-tuned, clever little arguments, are to us about persecution and violence. The crude comment under the piece about gun violence rather bears me out. A man who read the piece made a crack about killing catfishing women.

That’s what pieces like this do.

You don’t live our lives. You don’t experience our experiences. You don’t dwell in our truths.

So, you don’t get to tell us what this piece means to us. We already know. We already live it.

Enough.
