You and me both! I subscribed to Adobe Stock years ago for that exact reason, and while the site offers a lot more photos than the free services Medium writers often default to, it isn't a whole lot better. I think stock photo sites -- free or paid -- reflect society for better or worse. It's hard to find photos reflecting the reality of queer life, and some of Black writer friends note the same about finding photos that reflect their own lives. In fact, I've noticed that it's especially hard to find stock photos of Black queer people just living ordinary lives.

I don't know what (if anything) can be done about any of this. But it's super interesting to look at the stock photo sites as a signposts -- of where we are compared to where we want to be.
