Yes, that's quite possible, but surveys show that Catholic lay people across the US respect LGBTQ equality is pretty large numbers, a real supermajority , even in southern states. Catholic lay people are much more likely to be socially liberal than members of most other religions, which is odd in a way, because it puts them in direct opposition to most Catholic clergy.
