Yes, Ozlem Yalcin, in my experience, authoritarianism is often at the root of religiously imposed homophobia. The phenomenon is striking among Catholics, though perhaps less so among evangelical Christians.

The Catholic Church demands obediance to its hierarchy, even going so far as to make obediance a religious principle.

I know good Catholics who argue sincerely that it would be wrong of them to confront priests and bishops about their evil homophobia, even when they disagree with it. It seems that good Catholics share something in common with good Nazis.

They value following orders, even if those orders shock their consciences.

The evil of religion never ceases to astound me.
