Yes! My gay partner and I raised a kid who turned out to be straight. We didn't find that the least bit surprising, but a lot of other people did. We took him in because he was abused, and it's funny how many people jumped to the conclusion that he was placed with us because he thought he was gay or something.

He was placed with us because he needed caring parents.

That caring included frank talk about pregnancy, STIs, consent ... The whole ball of wax. I wrote an amusing story once about buying Brent (when he was 16) a box of condoms and leaving them on his dresser ... To his embarrassment when he brought a friend home from school.

I worried what people would think about us if they thought we were giving implicit permission for Brent to have sex.

But keeping him safe with empowering knowledge was more important than that.

But then I'd be preaching to the choir to tell you that! Thanks for the great story!
