Yes, in the US the threat from the religious right is and probably will remain powerful and important, something to watch and be wary of. Clearly, our summer of religiously driven red-state anti-trans legislation is more than just troubling. It’s a real crisis.

I worry, though, that if the US walks down the same path the UK has taken, things could get much, much worse here. What if certain blue states started to resist trans equality on leftist philosophical grounds, much as is happening in the UK now? It doesn’t bear thinking about.
