Yes, in my early career as an intelligence analyst in the Air Force, we did long shifts staring at screens with rapidly scrolling text. Some of the "dumb terminals" gave us amber text on a black screen and some of them gave us green text. They weren’t too bright, and I found them easy to read and not hard on the eyes, especially after a 12-hour shift.
Thinking back on those days, the internal fortitude of 20 somethings amazes me. ;-)
