Yes, I lived in Detroit for years, and southeast Michigan is a different world from the rest of Michigan, for sure. Grand Rapids proper isn't so bad, but the coolish city center frequented by relatively progressive people is surrounded by the purest MAGA red, making this part of the state uncomfortable for minorities.
