Yes! I don't think a lot of people realize how bad things are on the ground right now in red states like Alabama. This kind of situation is common, and it's reported somewhat in the queer press, but much less so in mainstream press.
I don't think enough people are paying attention, even though a clinician dropping a suicidal LGBTQ teen out of fear of legal consequences ought to be shrieking alarm bells you could hear a thousand miles away.
I'm doing everything I can to raise awareness, but sometimes, often actually, like with this piece, I feel like I'm shouting into the wind.
I can already predict that this piece is going to flop on Medium, based on a total lack of interest when I first published it.
It may do quite a lot better in the Los Angeles Blade when it goes live later today, but even then, it's likely to be read only (or mostly only) by queer people.
