Yes! For me, the last 3 years or so have been emotionally draining and debilitating. Especially given that I write about current events just about every day, I have been immersed in all of the Trump administration’s efforts to align with the religious right and erode or destroy LGBTQ equality.

Sometimes the anxiety that produces becomes pretty painful. I know people of color who feel exactly the same way that I do.

So for me, the prospect of a Biden administration offers just a little bit of promise of rest. Of respite. Of an unclenching of the gut, if even just for a little while.

I look back on the fiction and other artistic work that I produced before the Trump administration, and it startles me. How relaxed it is, how easy going, how centrally optimistic between the lines.

My artistic output over the last couple of years has been consistent, and according to some people at least, pretty good, but I see a dark to almost all of it, a sadness and underlying anxiety.

I wish my straight friends could feel what some of us feel. I mean I love them, and I know they’re on the side of the angels. I also know they don’t get it, not deep inside.

Sorry for the rant. You triggered something in me!
