Yes. Bottom shaming is what we call it.

If much of homophobia is misdirected misogyny, as I like to say, then bottom-shaming gay men are simply redirecting some of the internalized homophobia they grew up with.

It’s tough, of course. It’s hard to totally ditch the culture and values we grew up with.

I think maybe it gets a little better generation by generation.

I don’t know.

I do know that so long as women are perceived as being less valuable in some ways than men, and so long as gay men are seen as being more like women, especially when they bottom, then bottom shaming is destined to be something we have to struggle with.
