Yes, and you know it's a common phenomenon that American Catholics who have left the Church say they did so because of the Church teachings they were raised with, not despite the teachings. The Episcopal Church seems to be a common landing place.

It's interesting to see that Catholics in places like Canada, Belgium, and Germany (and to a somewhat lesser extent, France) rarely feel that kind of pressure. Catholic schools in Canada fly rainbow flags during Pride month. I remember one incident from this year where a school administrator in the Toronto area decided not to do that again, and all hell broke loose — not because of pressure from LGBTQ advocates, because of pressure from local Catholics. After a few days, the rainbow flag was run right back up the pole.

That's how things could be, if the American Church were not dominated by a hardcore cabal of moralizing traditionalists.

Things don't look set to get much better here, by the way. The US Conference of Catholic Bishops just elected a new leadership slate, and it's beyond ugly.
