Wow, I didn't know anybody still used that term, which was current when I was young on the gay scene in the 1980s. A decade later, there was even an informal "rice circuit" in New York City, basically three bars (if I'm remembering the number right) that catered to Asian gay men and other (usually but not always White) gay men looking for Asian gay men.

This wasn't a unique phenomenon. We also had a couple bars that catered to gay Black men and their "admirers," as the bar marketing put it.

We've come a long way, so I'm sort of surprised that the terminology has persisted.
