Wow, how creepy. I’m so sorry you had to experience that. Patriarchal values seem built into most of our religious traditions, though more progressive forms of Christianity seem to be trying to purge themselves of those values.

But in those traditions where women are barred from serving as clerics or having any actual power, it would seem that reactions like this priest’s would be almost inevitable.

Sigh.
