Worth mentioning is another Chechen gay purge that begin in December 2018 and extended well into 2019. The second purge may have featured more torture and executions than the first. As late as 2021, the Russian state was sending gay men who fled Chechnya back to Chechnya to be imprisoned, tortured, or killed.

Also worth mentioning is that U.S. in both the Trump and Biden administrations has kept a very tight lid on accepting gay Chechen refugees, making winning an asylum claim next to impossible. Tiny Canada accepts an order of magnitude more gay Chechen refugees than the U.S.
