With respect to the Proud Boys, I wrote articles all summer long about how they showed up at LGBTQ events around the country screaming profanities and slurs at small children and parents. In two instances at least, they showed up waving rifles. In at least one instance, children ran away screaming, believing they were about to be slaughtered.
All because the children's own parents brought them to a family Pride event.
It's not just the United States. I interviewed the director of an LGBTQ community center in Ontario, Canada (who later briefly went into hiding) after he received dozens of threats of violence the FBI characterized to my editor at the Los Angeles Blade as "credible," and as originating from members of the Proud Boys.
Proud Boys members have threatened leaders of the Rainbow Youth Project USA, which provides free mental health counseling to LGBTQ youth at risk of suicide, to the point that the FBI advised the agency to stay away from Pride events around the country. Rainbow Youth did not take that advice, though they lowered their visibility significantly.
The idea that a violent organization like the Proud Boys would be embraced by a "Christian" crowdfunding group is rather more than astonishing.
