With Neflix season two almost here, social media is bursting with teaser interviews, so I'm happy to read your take, which is very interesting.
You know, I did not expect to like Heartstopper season 1. I was fully prepared to be bored and find it all insipid or silly. When, at one point early on, I found myself in tears instead, I realized something very special was happening on screen.
Don't laugh at me, but I haven't felt that way since the Broadway premiere of Angels in America, another fairy tale of course, though unspeakably darker.
Watching Heartstopper season one prompted me to read the graphic novels, which I loved too. Then voters in a Michigan town near me defunded its library, in part over objections to the Heartstopper comics. That gave me new insight into the American battle over book bannings.
Obviously, I revile the religious fanatics who live in that town, but I'll give them this: They recognize how impactful Heartstopper really is.
