Why did the gay millennial bring his phone to the club? To check Grindr to see who might be interested!
The art of flirting (or cruising as we gay people call it, though the two aren't exactly the same thing) requires practice.
I remember flirting with a guy at Pride in a park in Detroit not so many years ago. I was standing on a small pedestrian bridge making occasional eye contact with a guy who I thought had been cruising me, but I wasn't sure since he'd been very subtle. Plus, he was lying on the grass seemingly entranced with his phone.
Finally, I turned to walk away, and that's when he jumped up and came over to say hello.
Long story short, we had dinner together and then went back to my place. I asked him later why he'd been so buried in his phone even though he was interested in me and was receptive to my cruising.
"Oh, I was just looking for you on Grindr," he said. "That would have made everything a lot easier."
