Who can afford to keep a house and raise children on one salary? Not the bulk of the working and middle classes. Perhaps we should keep that in mind before we romanticize women who choose to stay home instead of entering the paid work force. (Or men, right? Shouldn't a man's choice to be a house husband be respected too?)

Women get the super short end of the stick because available choices are actually very poor. They have to work outside the home, traditional women's work is poorly paid, and then their husbands often expect them to come home and work.

Nothing about enforcing traditional gender norms is going to do anything to change any of that.
