While what you have written is manifestly true, don’t you think it might miss part of the story?

I’m not a huge fan of critical theory either, in the general sense. But the raging debate going on about "critical race theory" usually has little or nothing to do with critical theory in general or critical race theory in particular.

I can acknowledge systemic racism brought about by racist practices like redlining without much caring about the Marxist underpinnings of critical theory. Real people (in large numbers) have been hurt by practices like that no matter how anyone frames the practices theoretically.

No matter how the issues are framed, the public debates going on right now have practically nothing to do with critical theory anyway.

I rarely bother telling anyone I’m not a big fan of critical theory, because I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t know what I meant. They would likely presume I was either defending elements of systemic racism or taking the side of people who don’t want more accurate history taught in schools.

I mean, I do get your point and I understand why you wrote what you did, so I guess all I can say is ... here’s to fighting for understanding.
