While the foundational claims of the LDS church are absurd and easily shown to be false, they aren't particularly crazier than what a lot of religious people believe.
What bothers me the most about the Church is that they are just one more faction of conservative Christianity in the United States that has a real hard on against LGBTQ people, whom they treat abominably. Being a gay or transgender Mormon means suffering tremendous pain and rejection. That's built into the religion.
They've gotten over most but not all of their institutional racism, that was until very recently pervasive and severe, but they aren't even trying to work on treating LGBTQ people kindly, even though Mormons have a justified reputation for kindness.
You have to hate somebody, I guess, and we are the people they hate.
