While I quite agree with you about the tendency of authoritarians to support one another, we should probably not forget the tendency of Evangelical Christians in the United States to fetishize the state of Israel for religious, eschatological purposes.

Israeli leaders are quite aware that their strongest supporters in the United States are not American Jews but American Evangelical Christians. While every Israeli I personally know finds Evangelical ideas about Israel and Judaism to be condescending and objectionable, the fact remains that Evangelical support of Israel and Evangelical rejection of the political and human rights of Palestinians are very useful to conservative Israeli governments.

Trump would almost certainly not have become president if not for strong Evangelical support. If he wants to be president again (or for his son to become president), he must keep that Evangelical support. Israeli leaders know that.

If they help put a Trump in power again, they know they are also empowering a political faction that will pressure U.S. governments to support them reflexively in almost all circumstances.

I’m sure this is just one aspect of Israeli support for Trump, but I think it’s one we should not overlook.
