Clanging jerked my nose out of a three-ring binder and my mind out of my studies.

I sprinted to the arms locker, threw a flak jacket over my shirt and tie, strapped on a helmet, and grabbed an M-16 from the security police sergeant.

Three of my fellow volunteers joined me.
