When I first watched The Closer, I feared a lot of really toxic transphobia would get defended in public. That happened and it is still happening.

I hoped vulnerable transgender people would eventually get centered in the conversation, but that isn’t happening – at least not from my perspective.

Most of the conversation I see centers around the supposed victimization of a rich man who doesn’t know enough about transgender people to be talking about them responsibly in the first place.

When I see people arguing passionately about standing up for the rights of comedians to be funny, I want to ask, but who will stand up for the embattled rights of trans people? Will anyone?
