What’s so striking about laws like this, which are cropping up all over the United States, is that they address a non-existent "problem."
Politicians leverage hate and/or fear to engage (or enrage) their base. They throw up a scapegoat, in this case transgender kids "unfairly" competing in sports, knowing that they will become more popular for being perceived as champions.
But the people getting hurt are the trans kids who deserve all the mental and physical health benefits of playing sports in school. As to the "problem," all you have to do is look at a state like California where trans kids have been playing school sports for many years.
Contrary to Republican the-sky-is -falling claims, there has been practically zero controversy in California resulting from trans student sports equality. Trans girls are not dominating any school sports.
When you get past the hateful or angry rhetoric and drill down to what’s really happening, it turns out not to be a problem at all.
