What's so sad about all this is even though this guy is an extremist example in his language, he's pretty ordinary theologically for Evangelical Christians at least in the United States around where I live.
My uncle is a Baptist minister and has been for decades at the same church. His wife runs the children's ministries and heads up the potlucks and women's functions, besides behaving generally as a force of nature in the community.
However.
Every year on New Year's Eve, the church has a light-hearted two to three hour service to ring in the New Year. It's not boring preaching and so forth, mostly. There's lots of singing and storytelling and even some comedy performances.
My aunt does a wildly popular schtick every year. She dresses up in costume and brings the house down. Not surprising, because she's always been very funny and entertaining. She's also quite a gifted public speaker.
One day though, I asked my dad why she doesn't teach more in church, deliver lessons and that kind of thing, because she's so good at it. (Not saying my uncle is dry, but ... LOL)
Dad gave me a matter of fact answer that fairly dropped my jaw. "Well, that wouldn't go over very well. Because women aren't to speak in church."
Mic drop.
