What I’ve never understood is the conservative political assumption that the Post Office must make money, must be independently sustainable and profitable.

Whatever happened to basic government services? When I was growing up, the US postal service was the envy of the world. Fast, inexpensive, and utterly dependable.

Now our politicians treat it like an unloved stepchild.

I don’t get that.
