What an interesting point, and one I had never keyed in on. Calling an effeminate gay man she/her is such a common insult, sort of a go-to slur for people who wouldn’t use something more crude in their daily lives.
I know people who consider themselves super polite, who don’t use the F-word in public because they consider themselves too high class for “vulgar” language, but who don’t hesitate to chuckle over calling a gay man “she.”
Yet these are the same people who refuse to call transgender women she or transgender men he.
