What a great question!

For far too many people, it seems there's no such thing as too much money. They never have enough, do they?

I'll never forget a conversation I had with a gay man during the lead-up to the 2020 elections. He told me that I "had to understand" that he was voting Republican because he paid too many taxes — and that was a value he cared deeply about. He complained that he had the right to care about that, that other LGBTQ people should stop treating him as if that made him a bad person.

This guy is already wealthy and powerful. He's not a billionaire or anything close. He works for his money. But he has so much of it already that he'll never have to worry about paying for food or having a (pretty nice) roof over his head. No matter how many taxes he pays, he'll have plenty of fuel for his multiple vehicles. Taxes are never going to prevent him from affording luxurious travel, etc.

But he voted for Trump anyway, because despite wealth that elevates him far above most Americans, he wants more.

More more more! Me me me!

And if that means voting against the interests of his fellow queer people, not only will he do that, but he'll take offense when people think badly of him for it.

I don't understand that!
