What a great perspective, Sharon. I hadn’t noticed this particular Twitter glitch if that’s what it is, but I can’t help but feel similarly to how you do.

I’m not raising a trans kid, but I have lots of trans friends and it’s so hard to understand the animosity some people reserve for them.

I can never write a story with a trans person in it, or promote that story anywhere (including in LGBT spaces) on the Internet, without angry people kicking in to hate on trans folks as a class.

Your story of your child really brings it home. Loving and accepting people matter. Your child’s identity doesn’t hurt anyone, even if somebody should happen to have some sort of theoretical or philosophical objection to the idea of their identity.

I wish more of these angry TERF types could see how they’re making it okay to hate on real people who’ve never harmed anyone.
