What a fascinating analysis! I’m glad I’m not the only liberal gay person to admit to really loving South Park.

I see all its flaws and I understand its problems, but the characters are awesome, and you’re right: when they nail it they nail it.

My gay partner and I were raising a young teenager in the early 2000s, and he turned us on to South Park. I’m sure we were terrible fathers for letting him watch it. ;-) But we really enjoyed it together and it led to a lot of pretty serious discussions about life, the universe, and everything.

Our son was flirting with growing up to be a politically apathetic straight white man, but watching South Park as a family helped us talk about the problems of that kind of apathy.

Mostly, though, we just laughed a lot. I mean, you know Cartman!
